Ft. Wayne to London, Ontario

10 11 09 Sunday

Next we headed north. Jalil was a little disappointed that he had not found more in Ft. Wayne. The radio was on a local station WOWO. A big smile appeared when he realized that it was the station he used to listen to. The program was about vit C helping all kinds of problems.

We had planned to visit the Amish country near the Michigan border but found out that nothing was open on a Sunday so we continued north until Lansing, Michigan, where we had a wonderful lunch in a stripmall that we found in an ad in one of the brochures we picked up at the Welcome Center/Rest Stop, when entering Michigan. Luna brought us there. The restaurant was packed with customers but it was very well organized and we got our food quickly and even found a table, which looked doubtful at first. Pam, I do not remember what we ate except a thick, tasty tomato soup with half a sandwich.

We tried to see the old town in Lansing but gave up due to road work and one way streets taking us away from where we wanted to go. So onward towards the Canadian border in order to enter Niagara Falls from the Canadian side, which my CPR student Elisabeth had recommended. We called Steven and Laura but they were at some golf event with Charlie and Diane. Carol and Charlie were watching the kids. We had a nice long talk with them. Dylan was not into talking as he was playing WII. He later told Laura that "Farmor understands". Elliana was taking a nap. Charlie gave us lots of ideas what to do on the East Coast.

We reached the Canadian border quickly while we were talking to Carol and Charlie. We crossed at Fort Huron/Sarnia. There were no lines and we sailed through but first we had to assure that we did not have any weapons, even a knife. Jalil admitted to a pocket knife and that was allowed. Then she wanted to know how long we were going to stay - "don't know" and where we were going, and where we planned to sleep tonight - "don't know". She suggested London and we agreed we would sleep in London. We had only planned to go to Niagara Falls but it was too far to go there that same day. Actually, we had not planned to cross the border that day but we sailed through Michigan so quickly.

The road was totally straight freeway on flat farmland so we soon had driven the 100 km to London. I called Days Inn for reservations in London and the clerk wanted to know if that was in UK or Ontario. We usually call ahead from the info in the AAA book to get a better price.
